Room 14's Classroom Information

WELCOME TO ROOM 14

My name is Ms Jenny Abnett and I am the teacher in Room 14.

I am an experienced classroom teacher and I am looking forward to working with your children and the school community.

Please feel free to come in and introduce yourself. I look forward to meeting you all.

Reading
Students will bring home a book and/or poem every night. Make sure you read with your children, ask them questions about the book, and ask them what reading strategy they are learning at Reading time. This will help them to comprehend what they are reading and to practice their skills. Please support your children to return their reading book/s daily.

Our library time is: Thursday morning.

Spelling
Your children will have weekly spelling words in their reading log notebook. These words will come from classroom testing  and/or their draft writing books. The students will also have the opportunity to learn these words within our classroom programme.

Hukanui School has a No Homework Policy.

Maths
For the first 3 weeks of term our Maths learning focus is Statistics. Maths Interchange will start after that and we will be targeting Addition and Subtraction. During Maths Interchange your child may have another teacher in the Year 1/2 team. This is dependent on what stage he or she is at.

Writing
We will explore a range of writing through our topic Individuality and other learning experiences. The children will have writing goals in the front of their writing books, that they will be working on. Feel free to check them out!

Parent Support
If you are interested in helping out within the classroom or a weekly supporting role, such as returning books, please come and discuss options with me. I have displayed a list of jobs that need doing, to help our classroom run more efficiently, on the wall just to the left of the doorway.

I am really looking forward to working with the new members of Room 14 and I am sure it is going to be an awesome year ahead! Please feel free to ask questions or to have a good look at what your child will be doing this year. I look forward to meeting you all!

Kind Regards
Jenny Abnett
